Omaha Works Volunteers
Life Member Luncheon
Christmas 2017

The Omaha Works Volunteers (formerly the Heartland Pioneers) had their Christmas LML this past Thursday, December 7, 2017 . The luncheon began with the pledge of allegiances to the flag of the United States of America and followed with the invocation of blessing delivered by Barb Gray.

We currently have life member luncheons three times a year. These luncheons are a good way to see the people you have worked with through the years. Itís great food, a lot of fun to see everyone and find out how we are doing on our community projects. The luncheons may inspire you to help out on some of projects that interest you as fellowship has always remained at the heart of
Pioneering.

As always, the group of retirees, spouses and friends enjoyed the camaraderie, seeing old friends, swapping stories about the good old days and enjoying the fine luncheon. The luncheon is a great way to start the holiday season as over 125 retirees, spouses and friends gathered to ring in the holidays. Our Master of Ceremonies Judy Coffe
y provided us with a lot of laughs as she distributed four tables of door prizes and there were three winners of the 50-50 raffle of $50.00 each. Judy also informed the retirees that we would have a new caterer beginning with the Spring LML in April 2018.

The guest speaker at the luncheon was Vern Larson, president of Avaya Chapter of the NLRN. Vern brought every one up to date on the bankruptcy proceeding and what the pension outcome for all would be beginning in January 2018.

In the tradition of Pioneering, president Bob Wolkins said a full pickup load of food was donated by the attendees, and the proceeds realized from the event were provided to the Salvation Army pantry.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
