Wylicia D., age 12, won a Compaq laptop computer from Project Connect which was hosted at the North Omaha Boys & Girls Club.

Project Connect is a suite of seven unique games that teaches children about technologies used in telecommunications.  Club member ages 8 to 18 played the online games in the Club's technology center for about twenty minutes per session.

Sponsored by several telecommunications companies and facilitated by TelecomPioneers, Project Connect was brought to the Club through the Heartland Pioneers.  TelecomPioneers is a corporate volunteer organization, primarily telecommunications employees and retirees, who contribute to the well being of citizens in the community of their sponsoring company or employer.  Project Connect addresses the need to increase awareness of technology careers, especially in telecommunications.

Over 50 Club members played a game or two then filled out an entry form related to the game and whether they enjoyed playing or not.  Using these entry forms, Club members were given the opportunity to participate in the most recent Project Connect contest, which gave members the chance to win their very own laptop computer.  Thanks to the leadership of the Club's Education Director, Niki Madison-Reed, this opportunity was shared with Club members and Wylicia now has the new laptop computer to help with her homework.
