An update on the Heartland Antiques |
Hello
Heartland Pioneers,
We wanted to tell the Heartland Pioneers where the donated antiques from the Omaha Works are going to be displayed. They will be displayed in the Hawthorne Museum in Chicago that will be dedicated to displaying Western Electric products from the beginning to date and other history of the Western Electric Company. They have a room for large artifacts such as switchboards, washing machines, telephone booths, and movie projectors. Then they have tons of glass display case space to house smaller items. They are very anxious to get it open to the public. By April 1st they should have about 250 artifacts - large and small out on display. Over the course of the next few months I'll be working with them to add photographs, documents, and information panels. We have long term loan agreements for the artifacts but the plan will be to rotate pieces in out of the museum to keep it fresh. Ultimately we'll be telling stories about the history of Western Electric switching products, telephone designs, residential products like the appliances, sound recording and sound motion pictures, support to the military, what it was like to work at Western Electric. There are many other stories to tell I'll see if I can get a copy of a story on the museum for you, it's getting a lot of local coverage. In the meantime I hope these pictures will help show what and where we're headed. The museum is located on the Morton College Campus in the same town as the former Hawthorne Works.
