TurkeyFest '07

Co-chair Douglas Thoms reported that even with the changed format (the Pioneers just assisting the Army this year) they were able to still help the Salvation Army deliver over 1200 dinners on Thanksgiving morning.  The crew went to work at the Bellevue center preparing the turkeys on Wednesday evening while another crew was preparing the brown bags at the Salvation Army's headquarters.  Doug said that on Thursday morning our volunteers arrived ready to box the dinners to go.  Below you will find pictures of this years event.  Also attached is the Salvation Army's report from Action News 3.

Hundreds Enjoy Warm Meal Thanks To Salvation Army
Omaha, NE - People all across the country filled their bellies Thursday with turkey, stuffing and all the Thanksgiving fixings. Thanks to the Salvation Army, so did hundreds of home-bound elderly and needy families in Omaha.

Three years ago, Helene Cohn and her family started a new Thanksgiving tradition. They're among hundreds of volunteers going door to door, delivering warm meals.  "It feels good because you know that you're probably going home to be with your family," she said. "You can bring that joy to somebody else."

Volunteers spent days preparing the dinners, complete with mashed potatoes, green beans and Thanksgiving turkey. Linda Buxton was so thankful when she got her meal. "I've never had anything like this before," she said. "I don't have to cook!"

More than 100 volunteers helped out the Salvation Army with this year's Turkey Fest.
