Project Connect

Last year Jerry wanted to find a way to get the word out to more schools and teachers about the Pioneers "Project Connect" so when the regional conference came to the Qwest Center he sit up a booth to tell them about the free program from the Telecom Pioneers.  Last year at the Regional Conference of the National Science Teachers Association there were 350 booths and over 3300 teacher in attendance.  Jerry was able to sign up 27 teachers from the region.  This year Jerry took Project Connect to the Nebraska Conference of the National Science Teachers Association.

The Nebraska Association of Teachers of Science (NATS) conference presented an opportunity for the Heartland Council to promote Project Connect  For a day and a half teachers from all over Nebraska converged at Camp Calvin Crest, just south of Fremont, to share technology and see what's new in the world of science.  Betty and Jerry Golmanavich were joined by Steve Miller and Helen Loyd (from California) who were warmly welcomed by the turnout of over 300 teachers.  Helen is president of the New Horizon council and came to learn from Jerry about how to market Project Connect to the teachers.

At last year's Regional conference he signed up 27 new subscribers for Project Connect.  This year he signed up 31 in spite of the fact that there were only about 1/10th the numbers from last year.  This approach seemed very cost-effective since the table setup was reasonably priced, and Jerry made a presentation to a captive audience of about 30 teachers on the Saturday morning of the conference.

Through a Project Connect grant we were able to give away 3 Best Buy Gift Certificates and we have 2 laptops to offer our Project Connect Community.  This contest ends November 30th.  We also took the opportunity to introduce our electronic maps of the United States which will be produced by a committee headed by Ray Fugger.  We received requests for 25 maps!  (see attached NATS photos of Helen and Betty and Lee and Ed Brogie from Wayne Nebraska.   Ed won a laptop last year at the Regional Conference at the Qwest Center.)
