New Outlook Pioneers, a community service organization for employees of telecommunications companies, is starting the new year with a pilot program to recruit members from outside its ranks.

New Outlook is affiliated with TelecomPioneers, a national organization founded in 1911 as the Telephone Pioneers of America. The group changed its name to TelecomPioneers in 2002 to better reflect the evolution of the telecommunications companies that sponsor Pioneers.

Members volunteer for a variety of projects such as tutoring to promote literacy, raising money to help homeless residents and providing winter garments for needy kids.

During the three-year pilot program, membership will be open to any individual who supports the community service projects of TelecomPioneers.

"We are excited the TelecomPioneers board chose New Outlook Pioneers to conduct this historical trial," said Jerry Golmanavich, outgoing president of New Outlook's Heartland Council.

TelecomPioneers is the world's largest corporate volunteer organization with more than 620,000 members. New Outlook has more than 3,000 volunteer members.
